The Stanly County Sheriff’s Office maintains a searchable inmate page. Current entries can display a person’s booking date, inmate ID, age, gender and other identifying details, with a separate option to view charges.

   Go directly to Stanly County Sheriff’s Office — Inmates. Check that the domain is stanlysheriff.us before relying on the record.

   Enter the person’s legal name. If you know only part of the name, start broadly and compare the returned entries carefully rather than assuming the first similar name is correct.

   Check the booking date

   The roster displays booking dates for listed inmates. Compare the displayed date with the approximate arrest date you already know.

   Record the inmate ID

   Write down the inmate ID or Sheriff’s Office number associated with the correct person. Identifiers are more reliable than names alone and may be needed for jail services.

   Use the charge link on the inmate entry when available. Read charge labels as allegations or custody information—not a finding of guilt.

The Sheriff’s current detention information page identifies the facility as the Stanly County Ralph McSwain Detention Center in Albemarle.

The Sheriff’s detention policies currently describe three bond routes for an inmate held at the Stanly County Detention Center. Bond conditions depend on the case, so confirm the specific person’s requirements before paying or signing documents.

   The Sheriff’s policy directs bond-stipulation inquiries to 704-986-3858.

   Verify the payment route before sending money

   Confirm who accepts the bond, the required amount, whether the bond is secured or unsecured, and what form of payment is accepted for that specific case.

   Keep all bond and court documentation

   Release from detention does not end the criminal case. Save receipts and make sure the defendant knows the next court date.

After confirming custody, stop searching arrest pages and switch to the detention center’s inmate-service pages. Stanly County has specific procedures for visitation, telephone access, electronic messaging and physical mail.

Current Stanly County inmate mail rules changed in 2026

The Sheriff’s communication page was revised January 20, 2026 and now gives a separate scanning address for ordinary inmate correspondence. This is especially important if you previously mailed letters directly to the Albemarle facility.

• The envelope must include the inmate’s name, Sheriff’s Office booking number and a return address.
• The Sheriff’s current rules limit ordinary correspondence to five pages.
• Writing should be on the front side of the pages because the processing system scans the front.
• The current rules allow a maximum of one photo per mailing.
• Items sent to the scanning address are electronically delivered and the physical material is destroyed after processing.
• Legal and medical correspondence uses a different procedure; follow the current facility instructions before mailing sensitive documents.

The Sheriff’s current visitation guidance says visits are non-contact video visits and that remote online visits can be scheduled using the jail’s approved NCIC system.

   The Sheriff directs remote users to NCIC for online visitation services. Follow the provider link from the Sheriff’s page rather than a search-engine advertisement.

   Request special consideration early when needed

   The detention center currently directs special-visit requests to 704-986-3734, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., excluding holidays. The Sheriff’s page says these requests should be made at least one week ahead.

North Carolina finished its statewide eCourts conversion in all 100 counties in October 2025. Stanly County therefore uses the statewide eCourts environment for public electronic case information.

   Go to eCourts Portal. The Portal home screen provides Smart Search for case information and a separate hearing-search route.

   Search using the criminal case number when you have it. Otherwise use the defendant’s legal name and narrow the results using available search controls.

   Do not rely on a name alone. Compare county, case number, filing information and case details to avoid mixing two people with similar names.

   North Carolina Judicial Branch states that Portal provides public access to docket information but is not the official court record. For official copies or a certified criminal-record search, use the Stanly County Clerk of Superior Court.

   The form asks the Clerk to conduct a certified name-based search of the official criminal-case records for the county identified on the form.

   The Judicial Branch permits certified county searches through the Clerk’s office. Review the current payment instructions before mailing or visiting.

The Sheriff’s website maintains a Most Wanted section, but it should not be treated as a complete list of every outstanding warrant in Stanly County.

North Carolina SAVAN is the statewide automated victim-assistance and notification system. The state says SAVAN electronically connects with North Carolina county jails and Adult Correction systems and can provide supported custody notifications.

The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction explicitly states that its offender database does not contain county-jail information. Use it after a case reaches North Carolina prison or supported state supervision, not as the first search for a fresh Stanly County booking.

1. Try the legal surname again. Use fewer search characters when spelling is uncertain.
2. Compare age and booking date. Do not identify someone only because the name looks similar.
3. Search eCourts. A court case can remain after the inmate leaves jail.
4. Check the arresting jurisdiction. Not every arrest involving a Stanly County resident necessarily results in Stanly County custody.
5. Use NCDAC only when state custody makes sense. The state offender database does not contain ordinary county-jail records.
6. Call when the information is time-sensitive. Do not plan bond, pickup, court travel or a safety response around a stale screenshot.

1. Using a copied mugshot page before the Sheriff’s inmate list. Start with the official Stanly County Sheriff source.
2. Assuming a mugshot means conviction. The court record—not the booking photo—shows how the prosecution progressed.
3. Searching only current inmates for an old arrest. Released people may disappear from the active roster while their court cases remain searchable.
4. Using eCourts as a certified background check. North Carolina says Portal is public docket access and is not the official court record.
5. Searching NCDAC for a new county booking. The state offender system explicitly does not contain county-jail information.
6. Mailing an inmate at an old jail address. Stanly County changed its ordinary inmate-mail process in January 2026.
7. Sending an irreplaceable photograph through scanned mail. Ordinary physical correspondence is destroyed after electronic processing under current rules.
8. Paying a caller claiming to clear a warrant. The Sheriff warns residents that legitimate law enforcement does not demand immediate payment by kiosk, app, crypto or gift card to prevent arrest.
9. Using public arrest data for regulated screening without proper procedures. USA-Arrests.org is not a consumer reporting agency. Employment, housing, credit and similar decisions may require legally compliant screening procedures.
