Indiana Recent Arrests: Mugshots, Bookings & Records

The public INjail search is the most useful statewide starting point when you either know the county participates or you are not sure which participating Indiana jail handled the booking. It is free to search and the public interface does not require you to create an account.

   Open the Indiana County Jail Public Portal

   Go directly to public.indianajail.gov/search. Check the domain before entering personal information because unofficial mugshot and people-search websites can resemble government record pages.

   Start with the last name

   The portal provides fields for last name, first name and birth date. For a common surname, add the first name and birth date to reduce wrong-person matches.

   Select a county when you know it

   Use the county filter when the arrest location is known. Leaving a search too broad can return unrelated people with the same or similar names.

   Use booked or released dates when timing matters

   The portal includes booking and release date filters. These are particularly useful when you know the arrest happened yesterday, over a weekend or during a specific date range.

   Read the custody record as a snapshot

   Review the booking information, county, charges and available custody details. Do not assume the charge text is the final court charge or that an old result proves current custody.

   Continue to MyCase for the criminal case

   When you need the cause number, hearing activity or court disposition, move from the booking result to Indiana MyCase.

Indiana county sheriffs operate local jails, and jail technology is not identical across all 92 counties. Some counties use the developing INjail platform, while others maintain their own public inmate search. That is why a statewide search can miss a person who appears immediately on a local sheriff website.

Indiana MyCase is operated through the state judicial system and contains public, non-confidential case information from courts using the Odyssey case-management system. Most Indiana courts use Odyssey, but MyCase should not be described as a complete criminal-history database.

   Use public.courts.in.gov/mycase. Public users can search non-confidential records without creating an attorney portal account.

   Choose the correct search type

   You can search by case number or by party. If you already captured a cause number from a booking or court notice, it is usually more precise than a name search.

   For a name search, narrow the person carefully

   Indiana’s search guidance allows a last-name search to be narrowed with first name, middle name and date of birth. MyCase also provides a sounds-like feature when spelling is uncertain.

   Filter by court or filing date when necessary

   If a person has several Indiana cases, use court and date filters to isolate the case connected to the recent arrest.

   Read the chronological case summary

   Use docket entries to understand filings, orders, hearing activity and other recorded events. Available public documents may be linked directly in the case summary.

   Contact the county clerk for the official record

   Indiana Courts warns that MyCase information is not itself the official court record and may contain errors or omissions. Certified or official records come from the court maintaining the case.

When your goal is broader than a current jail booking, Indiana State Police offers a Limited Criminal History service. The current ISP description says it is a name-and-date-of-birth check of Indiana records and that completeness depends on county participation.

   Read the ISP service description first

   Start at Indiana State Police Limited Criminal History. Use the product requested by the employer, licensing body or other organization when a formal background record is required.

   Prepare accurate identity information

   ISP states that the search is based on name, date of birth, race and gender, with additional identifiers used when needed. Small identity errors can affect a name-based result.

   Review the fee on the live state service

   A fee applies to Limited Criminal History requests. Use the current ISP page and checkout screen for the amount because older state pages can show different online-processing totals.

   Save the result when the request is complete

   Follow the service’s current instructions for retaining the report. A “no records found” result is still the outcome of a completed search.

The Indiana Department of Correction locator is for people in IDOC custody. It is a different system from county jail booking searches and should generally become relevant after a person has entered state correctional custody.

   Search by name or DOC number

   Indiana’s official FAQ states that the locator can search by first name, last name or DOC number. A DOC number is best when you already have it.

   If the person is not there, return to the custody question

   A person may still be held in a county jail, may have been released, or may be in another jurisdiction. Do not interpret an IDOC no-result as proof that there was no Indiana arrest.

Indiana SAVIN—Statewide Automated Victim Information and Notification—is designed for custody information and status alerts. Indiana’s official guidance says the service can provide information across all 92 counties and can notify registered users about changes such as placement, release or transfer.

The Indiana Judicial Branch explicitly distinguishes police records from court records. Arrest reports, incident reports and other police material are maintained by law-enforcement agencies, not by the courts.

   Identify the arresting agency

   Use the booking record to determine whether the arrest involved a county sheriff, city police department, Indiana State Police or another agency.

   Open that agency’s official records page

   Look for “Public Records,” “Records Division,” “APRA” or similar wording. Indiana agencies may use different forms and procedures.

   Provide a narrow description of the record

   When known, include the incident number, arrest date, location, person’s name and type of record. A focused request is easier to identify than a broad request for “everything.”

   Expect legal redactions or withheld material

   Public access does not mean every part of an investigative record must be released. Juvenile, victim, confidential, investigative and other protected information may be restricted under applicable law.

   Use the court for the court record

   If what you actually need is an order, judgment, case summary or other court document, use MyCase or the clerk in the county where the case is heard.

1. Verify the county first. “Indiana arrest” is too broad when the booking actually occurred in one specific jail.
2. Retry with full legal name and DOB. This helps separate people with common names.
3. Check INjail’s 30-day limitation. An older event may require a different source.
4. Open the county sheriff site. Not every Indiana jail uses the same public portal.
5. Search MyCase. The jail entry may disappear while the criminal case remains public.
6. Check IDOC if sentencing or transfer occurred. County custody and state custody are separate.
7. Call when a real-time safety or release decision depends on it. Do not rely solely on an old screenshot or cached search result.

Arrest and jail information is public in many situations, which means scammers can know a person’s name, county or booking details. That makes an unexpected call sound more convincing.

Public availability can change. Indiana MyCase explains that public cases are generally searchable unless they are confidential, sealed or expunged, and an expunged case can be removed from public access depending on the type and status of the expungement.
