Albany Recent Arrests: Mugshots, Bookings & Records

Do not spend time looking for an APD “daily mugshot roster” that the official city pages do not currently provide. Separate the arrest into three questions: which agency made the arrest, where the person is now, and which court is handling the case.

   Confirm that Albany Police handled the incident

   Write down the location, approximate arrest time, person’s legal name and date of birth if known. If the incident occurred in the City of Albany and APD handled it, the department’s non-emergency number is 518-438-4000.

   Use Albany County Corrections for a custody question

   Open the Albany County Corrections page. The county’s correctional resources include a V.I.N.E. Inmate Lookup route along with visiting, inmate-account, correspondence and inmate-service information.

   Search VINE using precise identifying information

   Use the full legal name and date of birth when available. If the name is common, do not assume that the first result is the right person. VINE can also be used for supported custody notifications.

   If the arrest is extremely recent, allow for processing time

   An arrest can be moving through intake, arraignment or release processing before all public-facing information is easy to locate. For an urgent family or safety question, use the official agency or facility contact rather than a third-party arrest page.

   Switch to Albany City Court for the case

   If the case becomes a felony prosecution, verify the court again

   City Courts can arraign a person accused of a felony, but felony trials are handled at the County Court level. Do not assume the first court involved remains the court of record throughout the case.

During this review, the current Albany Police and City of Albany public pages did not provide a general searchable feed of recent APD arrests with mugshots. Albany County’s Corrections page also routes users toward inmate and VINE resources rather than presenting a public “daily mugshot gallery.”

Albany Police publishes a direct procedure for obtaining an incident report that you filed. It is more specific than submitting a broad public-record request and should be the first route when you are requesting your own applicable APD incident report.

   Review the Albany Police Department page and locate the report-request instructions before sending personal identification.

   Gather the identifiers APD requests

   Include your name, date of birth, APD incident number, incident date and a copy of photo ID. Missing identifiers can make it harder to locate the correct report.

   Albany Police currently directs incident-report requests to APDReportRequest@albanyny.gov. Use the email address shown on the live city page before sending sensitive documents.

   Use the accident-report route for a crash

   APD separates motor-vehicle accident reports from general incident reports and directs users to its linked CrashDocs route.

The City of Albany designates the City Clerk as its Records Access Officer under New York’s Freedom of Information Law. The city specifically tells people requesting a police report in which they are the subject to use the APD report-request email; broader government-record requests can use the electronic FOIL system.

   Describe the record narrowly

   Include the approximate date, names, incident or reference number when known, location and the City department likely to hold the record. A specific request is easier to process than asking for every record connected to a common name.

   Choose inspection or copies when applicable

   The City currently lists paper copying at $0.25 per page and may charge actual costs for other reproduction. Large electronic requests can involve other media costs.

   Track the request through the electronic system

   The City says electronic FOIL accounts can be used to check request status and manage submissions. Its current guidance notes that the records-search process may take up to 20 days.

Albany County’s Corrections page is the better starting point when the question is “where is the person now?” rather than “what did Albany Police report?” The county publishes separate resources for inmate accounts, correspondence, visiting, inmate services and V.I.N.E. lookup.

For an arrest inside the City of Albany, the Criminal Part of Albany City Court is a key court contact. New York Courts says City Courts outside New York City handle misdemeanors and lesser offenses and arraign people accused of felonies.

   Have the defendant’s legal name ready

   If you also know the arrest date, approximate arraignment date or case/docket information, keep it with you when contacting the court.

   Use 518-453-5520 for current court routing rather than assuming a statewide web search contains every Albany City Court case.

   Confirm whether the case remains in City Court

   A felony accusation can begin with arraignment in City Court and later proceed at the county level. Ask which court currently has the case before visiting a courthouse.

   Ask for the exact case identifier

   Record the docket, case or indictment number that applies. It is more reliable for future follow-up than searching only by a common surname.

Older searches can change because New York law restricts access to certain sealed records. The state’s Clean Slate Act took effect November 16, 2024, and the Unified Court System has until November 16, 2027 to complete the required automatic-sealing implementation.

The official court guidance lists additional eligibility conditions and exclusions. A missing older case should not automatically be interpreted as a database error or evidence that the event never existed.

3. Assuming a mugshot means conviction. Use the criminal court record to determine what happened after arrest.

6. Sending a vague FOIL request. Include dates, names, incident identifiers, location and the department likely to hold the record.
